In April 2005 Ghent University hosts an international conference on Rhetoric, Politics, Ethics organised by the Flemish Research Council's project on literary ethics. The conference will address the political and ethical dimensions of language use in both literary and cultural discourse, with specific emphasis on the ideological potential of distinct rhetorical tropes. In exploring these issues, we hope to address the ethico-political imperative (or fallacy) accompanying contemporary theoretical scholarship in the humanities.
Rhetoric, Politics, Ethics will feature both parallel and plenary sessions. For the plenary sessions, we are pleased to welcome key-note speakers whose work has been formative for the shape of theoretical debate in the humanities.
The conference will run over three days:
- Thursday April 21
- Friday April 22
- Saturday April 23
Full registration is 75 (or 30 per day). Students, unemployed and subsidy recipients are eligible for the reduced rate of 25 (or 10 per day). A 10 late fee will be charged after February 1, 2005.
The conference will take place in Het Pand, Onderbergen 1. However, the opening plenaries on Thursday 21st take place in the Aula Academica, Voldersstraat 9. Please see the transportation page for details on how to get there.
